Holter monitor at the Wáberer Cardiology Centre makes it easier to screen for heart problems

After the ECG or 24-hour Holter monitor used so far, the long-term Holter monitor will soon be available, making it much easier to screen patients for heart problems in the future. Unlike the conventional device, the new monitor can be worn undetected for up to 7 days and can even be used for exercise, but its biggest advantage is that it can effectively detect hidden, less frequent complaints. According to Dr. Márton Vértesaljai, specialist in internal medicine and cardiology at the Wáberer Cardiology Centre, the new device could play an important role in prevention and even more accurate diagnosis.

It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people in Hungary may be affected by cardiac arrhythmias of various origins. Detection and treatment based on the diagnosis can prevent serious problems and have a major impact on the patient’s quality of life. However, traditional tests, such as ECGs or 24-hour Holter monitors, often fail to reveal the patient’s heart problem because symptoms do not always appear within 24 hours,” explains the specialist, explaining the current practice in cardiological diagnostics. In addition, the older device is more uncomfortable and the wearer is often embarrassed by the fact that it is visible and has to take it off when showering.

The professional team at the Wáberer Cardiology Centre has sought and found a new solution that could be a pioneer in making cardiological diagnoses even more accurate. The long-lasting Holter monitor can operate for up to 7 days on a single charge, allowing continuous ECG recordings.

“We tried it and got very good results. Because the new device can record and store up to 1 week’s worth of recordings, there’s a much better chance of actually seeing what’s wrong with the patient. I think this could be a big breakthrough in detecting heart disease more thoroughly.” – says the expert.

The special diagnostic service is already in use at the Wáberer Cardiology Centre, where the team is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a unique preventive approach. They believe that treating disease is important, but it is even more important to prevent it – with personalised care.
