Liposuction

Slimming down certain parts of your body with regular exercise and a healthy diet won’t make those damn pounds disappear. In these cases, liposuction may be the answer.

The procedure is basically designed to remove fat deposits that have formed despite normal body weight. It can also be used to remove fat that remains after significant weight loss and cannot be effectively removed by regular exercise. It is not a substitute for a diet, but it can achieve lasting results by removing fat cells. The treated area will no longer develop fat deposits.

In which cases is it recommended?

The following areas of the body are usually difficult to get rid of localised excess fat:

  • toca,
  • upper arms,
  • breast (men),
  • abdomen
  • hips,
  • waist,
  • buttocks,
  • thighs,
  • knee,
  • ankle.
Procedure of the operation

Consultation

Before the intervention, you will have a preliminary consultation in which:

  • clarify your expectations,
  • Our plastic surgeon will explain the surgical procedure, the expected results and possible side effects.
  • Our specialist will then offer you a personalised solution, taking into account your lifestyle habits and medical history.

Terms and conditions

Surgery under anaesthesia is preceded by a consultation with a specialist anaesthesiologist.

To ensure a speedy recovery, we recommend that you take note of and adhere to the following before the procedure:

  • do not smoke;
  • Avoid taking aspirin and natural medicines;
  • eat light foods and drink plenty of fluids (water);
  • take vitamins (vitamin C, selenium, zinc).

The operation

Our internationally renowned plastic surgeons work in our operating theatres in a safe environment with state-of-the-art equipment. It is extremely rare, but we can provide immediate intensive care should a complication arise.

Liposuction can be performed under local anaesthesia (as an outpatient procedure) or under surgical anaesthesia. The former is recommended for minor procedures, the latter for liposuction of areas larger than two parts of the body at the same time.

  1. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, the procedure usually takes 1-3 hours.
  2. First, our plastic surgeon fills the treated area with a special solution through small incisions to reduce bleeding.
  3. Then, using hidden incisions, the right size suction tube is inserted into the subcutaneous fat tissue and the fat is loosened with controlled movements. The released fat is removed using a surgical vacuum, the remaining fat is adjusted to the thickness of the surrounding layer.
  4. After the operation, you will be given a special compression garment.
  5. If you are having an outpatient procedure, you can go home after about 1 hour’s rest, but it is advisable to call an escort. Following an anaesthetic procedure, you will need to stay for 1 night of observation in the relaxed, premium environment of our centre. You will be discharged to your home the following day.

Only the equivalent of 3 litres of fat can be removed during such a procedure. As the procedure is not a substitute for weight loss (at most, it is a supplement), no weight change is expected, but rather a slimmer, shapelier figure.

Post-surgery period

The healing time for small surgical scars is different for each patient. Compression garments should be worn for about 6 weeks after surgery. Stitches are usually removed after 1 week. Please note the following to ensure a speedy recovery:

  • after 1 to 2 weeks of rest after the operation, the patient can return to daily activities;
  • Avoid sunbathing, solarium, sauna for 2 months;
  • heavy physical work and intensive sports are not recommended for 3-6 weeks!

During this time it is quite natural to experience the following:

  • muscle fever-like, dull pain;
  • swelling in the treated area;
  • bruising, purplish skin discoloration.
Possible complications

At the consultation and during the preliminary tests, we aim to screen out all possible risk factors, but very rarely, even so, the following complications may occur:

  • haematoma;
  • inflammation;
  • wound infection, skin necrosis
  • wound healing disorder;
  • skin numbness, numbness of the skin;
  • skin roughness, looseness;
  • persistent discolouration of the skin.

Result

The results of liposuction can be seen on the same day, but the initial condition expected by the patient can be said to be permanent after a few months.

The operation involves the removal of excess fat, so the change is not measured in kilograms but rather in centimetres. Thanks to the contouring procedure, people who come to us are satisfied that their bodies are proportionate and shapely again.
