The majority of children with congenital heart disease live to adulthood thanks to successful paediatric cardiac surgery, but they usually require special care and monitoring for the rest of their lives. Regardless of the type of congenital heart disease, arrhythmias and heart failure are common in these adults. For them, adult decisions require more planning and specialist consultation. Sport, contraception, having children and employment may also present particular challenges. With our outpatient clinic, we aim to create continuity in cardiological follow-up after childhood and to provide the conditions for regular follow-up.
