The CT.device uses X-rays to take pictures of specific areas of the human body. The images are evaluated by a radiologist within 3 working days of the examination. A CT scan can answer questions that cannot be answered by other diagnostic imaging methods such as ultrasound, X-ray or MR. Our clinic is equipped with a 128-slice GE Revolution Evo CT scanner with state-of-the-art software, one of the fastest in the world.
Its equipment and speed make it suitable for scans of the skull, neck, chest, lungs, abdomen, pelvis, spine, vascular system, extremities and heart. The examination is painless and safe. It takes a short 10-20 minutes in the exam room. Low radiation exposure to the human body. It can also be performed on patients with pacemakers. Accurate, reliable diagnostic procedure.
Because of the X-rays used, CT scans are only performed on the basis of a referral or written recommendation from a doctor, who will specify the region to be scanned and decide whether contrast material is needed. However, a low-dose chest CT scan is also available on request as a screening test.
Low-dose chest CT is recommended for chest complaints or history of COVID infection, persistent smoking, pneumonia. If you wish to have a screening low dose chest CT scan and you have not had a chest lung screen, chest X-ray, low dose/ low dose chest CT scan within 1 year, you can have a chest CT scan without a referral. Chest scans for other purposes are mainly chest CT scans with contrast agents.
Cranial CT scans are mainly used for bleeding, traumatic lesions, stroke and other tumour lesions, but MR scans can give a more accurate picture of brain structures.
Facial skull and paranasal sinuses are examined for inflammation of the sinuses and frontal sinuses. Inner ear so-called HRCT scans are also done. We also do a native orbital CT scan to look for trauma to the orbit or foreign bodies.
A native abdominopelvic CT scan is recommended for kidney stones. CT urography is performed to examine the renal tubules by administering abdominal CT contrast medium.
A pulmonary CT angiography (PCTA) scan is performed after administration of a venous contrast agent.
The cervical, dorsal, lumbar, pelvic and sacral regions of the spine may be examined, which may provide an answer to traumatic abnormalities.
Cardio CT scans are also done to examine the blood vessels of the heart (coronary arteries), which can detect coronary artery disease at an early stage. The scan gives an idea of the number of plaques, their individual parameters, the pattern of any calcification and the extent of vasoconstriction.
The native tests do not require any special preparation, but it is important to make sure you drink enough fluids throughout the day. Native CT scans are performed without contrast agents.
For contrast studies, oral diabetes medication should be avoided for the two days before and after the study. It is important to have a renal function laboratory test and the results of this test must be brought to the examination.
At the time of the examination, in addition to the implanted metals, any metal on clothing and removable metals must be removed and electrical devices must be left in the stripping room. It is recommended that you come to the CT scan in clothing without metal (zips, buttons, rivets, sequins, clasps) in the area of interest, or it is practical to bring such clothing with you. If not, a gown and slippers will be provided for changing.
The CT contrast agent is an iodine-containing compound, which makes it easier to visualise the condition of soft tissues and blood vessels, and gives a more accurate picture of the type, location and extent of lesions. Although rare, the contrast agent used in the test can cause hypersensitivity reactions, allergies, which are usually mild. These may include rapid onset and then transient warmth, heat, unpleasant taste sensations. It is important to note, however, that the risk of a contrast agent test is much lower than the risk of a missed test if a serious disease is not detected.
If intravenous contrast material is to be administered, the kidney function should be checked before administration. This is done by taking a blood sample from the laboratory. Please bring a laboratory report with you that is no more than 2 weeks old. The following parameters will be tested on the blood test: creatinine, urea, eGFR. The laboratory test can also be performed at our clinic. Please book an appointment!
Our institute uses low-risk agents in accordance with professional recommendations and regulations.
