The Holter test monitors and records the electrical activity of the heart continuously for 24 hours. It is used to diagnose cardiological problems such as arrhythmia, as there are ECG abnormalities that cannot be detected in a few minutes of conventional testing because they are not continuous. Once the device is fitted, normal daily activities can continue uninterrupted. The test is performed using a device consisting of 5 pins and a small radio-sized device. The pins (electrodes) are glued to the chest, while the device can be hung around the neck. If you experience discomfort or heart palpitations during the day, you can press the button on the device, which is designed for this purpose. During the test, it is recommended to keep an event diary in which daily activities (walking, stress, eating, activities requiring increased physical activity) are recorded with precise time stamps.
The HOLTER test does not require any preparation, but the chest hair is shaved at the pinnae before the test. The device should not be removed or exposed to water for 24 hours, so it is recommended that you clean up before fitting. The results are evaluated in a consultation with a cardiologist.
