FIBROSCAN/CAP

FIBROSCAN/CAP

Fibroscan is as essential a part of the liver disease investigation as abdominal ultrasound and detailed laboratory tests.
This test measures the connective tissue and fat content of the liver: it can replace a liver biopsy for these two questions. It can be used to determine the extent of liver fibrosis in chronic liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis B or C, alcoholic or drug-induced liver damage, fatty liver or autoimmune hepatitis.
Fibroscan is also useful for confirming or excluding liver cirrhosis and for monitoring deterioration or improvement.

Our Health Centre is a liver diagnostic (hepatology) centre with unique facilities in Budapest, with the country’s renowned specialists and a full range of diagnostic equipment.

When should you have the test done?

When should you have the test done?

Testing is indicated for virtually all chronic diffuse liver disease, either to assess the severity or to determine the effectiveness of treatment.

Among others, we perform fibroscan in chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C, alcoholic or drug-induced liver damage, fatty liver, liver cirrhosis and autoimmune hepatitis.

The test is not suitable for detecting the cause of liver disease or for clarifying benign and malignant liver tumours. The fact that neither fibrosis nor abnormal fat storage can be detected in a given case does not prove that there is no liver disease, i.e. fibroscan is not a substitute for a detailed specialist examination.
