Sleep is an inseparable process of human life, and sleep disturbances can significantly impair quality of life, negatively affect health, social relationships and work performance. More than half of the Hungarian population suffers from sleep problems, and the complaints are generally similar (insomnia, snoring, teeth grinding, endometriosis). It is important to pay attention to these phenomena and not to trivialise them. Sleep disturbance is a disease that can even cause a heart attack or stroke (cerebral vascular catastrophe) at night. In our clinic, we perform a large number of sleep tests to identify and diagnose sleep disorders in our clients. The complex sleep diagnostics we provide also include sleep endoscopy to pinpoint the actual anatomical lesion causing the snoring – improving the success of any surgical intervention. Patients suffering from moderate to severe sleep apnoea are referred to a properly equipped sleep centre.
Sleep apnoea syndrome is the most common sleep-dependent breathing disorder that develops as a result of repeated obstruction of the pharynx during sleep. Snoring affects about 10-30% of the adult population. In addition, in a certain percentage of people who snore, it is associated with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSAS). In more severe cases of sleep apnoea, this process can be repeated several times an hour, leading to long-term health problems such as high blood pressure, heart attacks and various circulatory disorders in the brain. Our health centre has a portable respiratory polygraph for OSAS screening. This can help us determine whether you have sleep apnoea and if so, whether it is mild or more severe. Patients with the latter diagnosis should always undergo polysomnography to get the most complete picture of the sleep disorder and its possible causes.
Many devices promise to effectively reduce or eliminate snoring: nasal clips, anti-snoring watches, in-ear acupuncture plugs, nasal nasal patches to ease breathing, anti-snoring sprays… Of course, the best possible solution for all patients with snoring is a sleep diagnostic or ear, nose and throat examination. In our clinic, these tests are carried out by qualified specialists who will determine the most appropriate treatment for each individual. If conservative treatments are not successful, the following surgical options are recommended and performed:
