Vaxigrip Tetra vaccine is suitable for children 6 months of age and older, adults and pregnant women. The influenza vaccine is recommended for adults, especially anyone over 65 years of age and/or with any underlying medical conditions: circulatory system diseases, metabolic disorders (diabetes), chronic respiratory diseases, kidney disease, and congenital or acquired reduced immunity.
The flu vaccine is best given before the start of the flu season.
Established immunity is based on the recommended antigenic composition for the year and can be renewed annually with an age-appropriate amount of vaccine.
It should not be given in cases of acute febrile illness and in cases where the vaccinee is suspected to be in the incubation period of febrile illness. Vaccination should only be given at least two weeks after febrile illness. Immunisation is recommended at least 4 weeks after recovery from severe illness. The vaccine should not be given to persons with a known allergy to one or more components of the vaccine.
Reactions at the injection site (redness, pain, swelling, tightness) may occur, but usually disappear very quickly. General reactions, such as malaise, chills, headache, pain in the head and limbs and fever (intermittent) may occur, usually mild and short-lived. Painful nervous excitement may occur as with any other vaccine.
